WORKING TITLE

FUGUE

Sound is all around us. From the activities we do, to the music we listen to, and even the sounds of nature. Most of our ears can pick up a lot of auditory information as well as help us with balance. Some of us don’t have the luxury of the former.

Melody is fifteen years old and hard of hearing, but she loves to listen to music, especially the classics. Locked up in her room, she listens to all the greatest composers of classical music, and she even plays the piano and dances. The outside world is a complete stranger to her as she is not allowed to go outside. Her “guardians” are secretive and also quite probing, coming and going as they please while performing tests. Her professor Ms. Truman, teaches her things like literature and music, who always brings a book for Melody to keep for her collection.

Now that Melody is getting older, naturally she grows curious about what’s beyond the cement walls of her room. Melody begins to pry and ask more questions, but as the questions build up, there are no answer to go with them. Melody’s pen pal Harmony is a great comfort to her as they talk about many things such as their favorite music, their future plans, and even love, but they also talk of secret things like the prison they live in and for one day to escape their small world.

One day Ms. Truman cuts herself deep, and Melody notices that she is different than her. Melody realizes that nobody can heal like she does, or even as quickly as she can. A dangerous idea starts to spread through her thoughts that might give her leverage over her guardians. A chance at seeing what’s outside her room, and the truth about her existence.
